About Our Groundworks & Drainage
Groundworks is the part of a job that ends up underground and out of sight, but it's what everything else depends on: excavation and a compacted sub-base sit behind driveways, patios and paths, and getting it wrong is the most common reason a finished surface later cracks, sinks or holds water. Drainage is the other half, with land drains for wet or clay ground, soakaways where there's no connection to a watercourse or sewer, and French drains to intercept water running towards a building or down a slope.

What's Included
- Excavation and removal of spoil, turf or existing surfaces
- Sub-base preparation and compaction for driveways, patios and paths
- Installation of land drains to manage waterlogged or clay ground
- Soakaway installation, crated or traditional rubble-filled
- French drain installation to intercept surface or ground water
- Connection of drainage to existing surface water systems where possible
How It Works
- 1Site visit to assess the ground, drainage problem or planned surface
- 2Investigate where water is coming from and where it can be taken to
- 3Agree a scope of works and quote covering excavation and drainage
- 4Excavate and install drains, soakaways or sub-base as required
- 5Backfill, compact and reinstate the surface or hand over for the next stage
- 6Final check that falls and drainage are working before we leave site

Drainage problems are usually invisible until they cause damage, so we'd rather spend time working out the cause on site than guessing.
As a local Nottinghamshire team we understand the mix of clay and heavier ground that's common across the area.
What Affects the Price
- •Extent of excavation and volume of spoil to remove
- •Ground conditions, particularly clay content and existing water table
- •Type of drainage needed (land drain, soakaway, French drain)
- •Access to the site for machinery and muck-away
- •Whether the work is standalone or the groundwork stage of a larger project
