Tarmac gives a solid, smooth driveway surface that copes well with everyday use and low upkeep, laid by digging out the existing surface to the right depth, compacting a proper sub-base, then laying the tarmac in a binder course followed by a surface course. Most jobs involve removing an old, cracked or worn drive and rebuilding it properly for weight and drainage, finished with edging such as block paving kerbs or a brushed tarmac edge.

Common Questions

How long before I can drive on a new tarmac driveway?

Tarmac needs time to cool and harden fully before it's ready for regular vehicle use. We'll tell you when it's safe to drive on and what to avoid in the first few days, since fresh tarmac is softer in warm weather and can mark more easily until it's properly set.

Can you lay tarmac over my existing driveway?

Sometimes, if the existing sub-base is sound and drains properly, but a lot of older drives don't meet that standard. We'll check the ground during the quote and tell you honestly whether an overlay will hold up or whether it needs digging out properly.

Do you deal with drainage as part of the job?

Yes, falls are built into the tarmac as it's laid so water runs off to a suitable point rather than pooling. If your property needs additional drainage, such as a channel drain, we'll cover that at the quote stage.
