Most patios don't need replacing, just bringing back up to scratch: patio cleaning covers jet washing the surface, sorting out the joints and re-sealing where appropriate, rather than digging anything up. Jet washing pressure is matched to the material since too much on softer stone like sandstone can etch the surface, and once clean we re-sand or re-point the joints and can apply a sealer to help the patio resist moss and dirt for longer.

How It Works

1Assess the patio's condition, material and existing joint type
2Agree the scope, whether that's a clean only or clean plus re-pointing and sealing
3Jet wash the surface at a pressure suited to the material
4Rake out and replace failed joints, then re-sand or re-point as needed
5Apply sealer once the surface and joints are fully dry, if agreed
6Final check and clear away any debris or old jointing material

Common Questions

Will jet washing damage my patio?

Not if it's done at the right pressure for the material. Softer stone needs a gentler approach than something like granite setts or concrete flags, which is why we look at the material before starting.

How often should a patio be cleaned?

It depends on how shaded the garden is and how much moss and algae builds up, but checking it every year or two and dealing with joints before they fully wash out saves more work later on.

Can you re-sand joints without a full clean?

It's better to clean first, joints re-sand more evenly and last longer once the surrounding paving is free of moss and grime.
