About Our Surface Dressing

Surface dressing extends the life of an existing road, track or yard without the cost of a full resurface: a layer of bitumen binder is sprayed onto the existing surface and covered with stone chippings, rolled in to bond and give a sealed, skid resistant finish once cured. It's commonly used on rural roads, estate roads and farm tracks where the base is sound but the wearing surface has worn or started to let water in, and we carry it out across Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and Derbyshire.

Common Questions

How is surface dressing different from resurfacing?

Resurfacing lays a new layer of tarmac, whereas surface dressing seals and refreshes the existing surface with binder and chippings. It's a cheaper way to extend the life of a surface that's still structurally sound.

Will there be loose chippings after the work is done?

Some loose chippings are normal in the days after dressing while they bed in under traffic. We sweep the surface after application and can return for a follow-up sweep if needed.

Is surface dressing suitable for farm tracks?

Yes, it's a common treatment for farm tracks and estate roads where the base is sound but the surface has worn or is letting water through.
